Flaky People
I need to vent. I'm getting so tired of dealing with a flaky individual. Over last weekend, I proposed the idea of getting together with said individual for this weekend. This person said that would be good. So now tonight, I went to pencil in the official plan, and guess what... No response... Nothing... This individual has done this to me on multiple occasions in the past. "Oh, I'll FaceTime you" and doesn't. "Oh, I'll FaceTime you" and doesn't again. We will get together for lunch, and I will let you know "forsure" (all one word for some reason). Guess what... When I go to ask for the time, I don't hear back. Said person sends a message saying "I'm bored", so then I tell this person that I'll come visit, and then they say "Oh, I need to get this done soon". Don't they realize how much it sucks to leave me hanging? How dishonest and misleading this sounds? Not only is it frustrating, but it also makes me feel like I'm worthless also. This person claims to "love" me (friends and nothing more I think anyway) but their actions sometimes don't back that up. This same individual has also said that they'll miss me, but that they'll miss their other friend more... It all comes back to finding QUALITY friends. This person seems to have some personal issues. I've got my problems, and I know it, but at least I own up to my faults and don't try to blame it on other people. Maybe this person is trying to get me to chase them, but I'm running out of breath and need to give up on this said chase. And I cannot ask this person, as this person doesn't take criticism very well, and says something along the lines of that I don't know what they are going through and that it is also none of my business. It took me a while, but I think this person really does want me as a friend, but I have to wonder if there's a motive, and if this person really wants this friendship or just wants someone to talk to when it's convenient for them... Or perhaps if this person has some other underlying issue that makes them panic and bail out. I wish this said individual would be more up-front and not try to cover up whatever it is. I'm so confused!

My Next Thing to Tackle
So, here's the next thing I've got to work on.
I hate being left out. You'd think after being excluded for most of my life over and over, I'd be used to it. I was left out throughout school, and it has continued into adulthood. But you just never get used to it. Maybe it's because I'm socially awkward. Maybe it's because I don't fit in. Maybe it's because I may be a risk to cause conflicts. Maybe it's because people don't like me. Maybe it's not my business. Maybe I'm being led on. Maybe other people are manipulators. Maybe other people are fakes. Maybe other people just plain and simply suck. I wish I knew the answer. Maybe it's all of the above. It leaves a hole in my heart every time, and it's even more painful when someone tries to hide the fact that they're excluding you by quietly leaving you out with no explanation why, and then clearly catching the people in the act. But if I ever question it, then it will always somehow be my fault. So I either live with the heartache or I be alone, which still leaves me with heartache. I lose either way. I wish I could just have that friend that wouldn't exclude me… That always wants me around. That actually enjoys my presence. That doesn't push me away. That actually is committed to spending time with me. That wouldn't plan to exclude me. That wouldn't contradict what they say with their actions or lack thereof. So... With all of that being said, this enters my next challenge that I need to tackle. Finding some people in my life that I can spend time with and enjoy, consistently. Where I don't feel like I suck. That I can actually see face-to-face. Outside of a few people maybe, I'm going to have to do this on my own. If I can succeed with this, other good things should follow. I got past hating life, now I need to find ways to enjoy life. So I guess in a round-about sort of way, I would benefit from expanding my friendships and definitely adding some new ones.

What's Going On?
As many of you know, I have been going through some tough
times. I am going to explain. For the better part of 12 years, I have struggled
with depression. For that amount of time, and perhaps longer, I have had
struggles with anxiety. Both are crippling things that I would not wish on
anyone. My depression comes and goes in waves, and my latest struggle with it
began around June. My depression and anxiety has created so much misery for me,
especially in the past, and it has for others as well. I have lost friends
because of it.
For the first time, I decided to get help, so I went to the
doctor in early September, and I have now been prescribed with a generic of
Zoloft. Now this as expected has not performed miracles, but then again, it
could take anywhere from 3-6 weeks before it is working at 100%. I have a
follow-up appointment coming up in a few weeks. It has helped, which is a start.
I haven’t felt as down; I’ve been more motivated to do things, and when I do
get upset, I find myself bouncing back quicker than before. But don’t get me
wrong, I still have some bad days, and I’ve been having at least one or two of
those each week, but it’s better than six or seven per week.
It has also helped with my anxiety. I still have anxiety
though, and quite frequently, but I don’t notice my heart racing out of my
chest nearly as often, and I don’t seem to be having that wobbly feeling in my
legs anymore. It seems to be more manageable.
That said, like so many people who struggle with these
things, this are permanent. It will never go away. People who say that it will
go away are wrong. It is something that must be dealt with for the remainder of
my life, but it’s just figuring out ways to manage it and make it do-able. So
one of my goals has been getting “better” and finding better ways to handle it.
Progress is being made there.
But I have another goal that’s also important to me. I’d
like to build better and closer friendships. It’s something that’s lacking, and
I think I deserve to have it. But the problem is, with a person who has a lot
of anxiety problems, and at times struggles socially, where does a guy like me
even go? Where do I start? A bar or a club is not the place for me, and I’m
just plain and simply not that outgoing and probably will never be. But that
doesn’t mean I don’t want some close friends because I really do.
And as far as an actual “relationship” goes, meh, if it
happens, it happens. I’ve been in one before, and I wouldn’t be opposed to that
again, but I would hope it would be the right girl if it is. The last one was
not. I don’t imagine myself with someone who would truly be crazy about me. I
just don’t picture it. I guess I’d believe that when (and if) I’ll see that. But
either way, that’s neither here nor there. What’s most important to me at this
point is building close friendships. The few friends I do have, some of them
may want to do that as well, and others may not. Some will want to put in the
effort, and some may not. Shoot, maybe none of them will want to. But that’s
okay, I’m wanting some new friends too, and I should put some focus there.
Anyway, enough of my rambling for now. There may be more updates to come.

Mike Wins Conference Spring Tournament by Defeating Travis 21-16

The Lost Island Spring Tournament was held 5/25/13 at Lost Island Court. The games are listed below.
1st round:
Mike vs Randy
This game was very tight most of the way through the game, but it always seemed that Mike had the slight advantage throughout. Randy would make a big stop late to keep Mike from going out, but it wasn't enough later on as Mike narrowly won, 21-19.
Ryan vs Jeff
Ryan had some good moments, but Jeff's powerful offense proved to be too much for Ryan. Jeff wins 21-7 in a blowout.
2nd round:
Mike vs Chris
Chris began the tournament in this round after being selected at random for the bye in the 1st round. Mike started off with a huge lead and was threatening to completely blast Chris, but Chris started finding his groove and started to chip away at Mike's lead, however, Chris dug himself into too deep of a hole early and he was unable to get out of it. Mike wins 24-13.
Jeff vs Travis
Travis began the tournament in this round after being selected at random for the bye in the 1st round. Travis started off quick with a big lead, but Jeff's powerful offense would quickly put him back in the game. Jeff made a rally to make it a 16-15 Travis advantage, but Jeff had key rejections throughout the game that kept him from winning. Travis had a good showing on offense himself and would win 22-15.
Final round:

Mike opened up the game with a healthy lead quickly, as Travis opened the game with an eleven rejections in a row to start the game before finally making a connection on his 12th throw. Travis was still getting beat up trailing 16-8 but Travis would throw an 8 and Mike would leave an open rack to make the game 16-all. On the following round however, Mike would throw a 5 and Travis would leave an open rack to give Mike a win after losing in the final match in the tournament last season. Mike wins 21-16. 15 of the 16 points Travis scored came off of big plays. (A seven that Mike left an open rack, and an eight that Mike left an open rack.) Mike gets back to the 4th spot in the conference standings.

Jeff won both games played at King's Court against Travis today to retake the #1 spot again. Jeff is 7-0 at King's Court (his home court) this season and has not surrendered more than 12 points so far at home. Jeff won the first match 21-12 and the second match in a blowout, 25-7. After the game, here's what Travis had to say.
"For about the past three to four weeks, all in all, I've been playing the best I've ever played consistently. I have been very consistent in my practices and I've really done a good job on minimizing the amount of open racks I'm leaving. With that being said, my quality practices will do me no good if I cannot bring that quality play to actual games. I always know when I go up against Jeff that I'm going to have my work cut out for me, and I started off playing as well as I have in my practices, however, the rejections started mounting up quickly, and by the time we had made it to the second match, my quality of play also became poor. Jeff was hitting everything today, and credit goes to him for keeping open racks to a minimum. That is something I failed to accomplish today. The rejections to a point are out of my control, but I need to do the best that I can on what I can control, and I didn't do my best today."
Provided that the weather holds, there will be more games on Saturday at Smurf Turf Court, where recorded games will be played there for the first time. Travis will look to bounce back, while Jeff will look to continue holding on to his #1 spot.

Rule Changes in 2013
The following rules have changed in 2013:
- During a recorded game, players may not change uprights unless an upright has broken or malfunctioned.
- During a recorded game, a player may longer be allowed to change bolas until after the game is completed unless a bola is broken or has been lost.
- Both players must use the same type of bola - hard or soft.
- The throwing line or distance between the uprights has changed to 22 feet. You may throw further away if you like.
- No part of a player's foot or shoe may go past the front of the legs of the uprights or those throws will be nullified.
- During a recorded game, you may only throw one bola at a time. If you throw more than one bola at a time, those bolas' scores will be nullified.
- A bola counts for points whenever the rope of the bola touches the rung/step. (Previously, the rope of the bola had to touch at least half of the rung/step and not just simply touch it.)

Ladderball, 2013 Pre-Season Rankings Released. New Ranking System to be Used.
About the New Ranking System...
A new system will be used for the rankings in 2013. This new system was also used to determine the pre-season rankings for the new season. The new ranking system was put in place to simplify the process in determining each player's ranking, and it also eliminates any controversial advantages to players who play an easier schedule or play or games. The new ranking system has four key weighted categories totaling 28 points (Although most players scores will typically be below 20) that affect your score towards your ranking.
1. Average Opponent Rank (Maximum of 10 points)
The highest-weighted category that goes into determining your score for your ranking is the average ranking of the opponents you play. The ranking of the opponent that is counted is their current ranking at the time you played them. Any unranked or non-conference opponent is counted as a rank of 15 towards the average. All players in the top 10 are counted as their actual ranking. If the average ranking of all the players you play is 3 for instance, you would get more points than someone who has played opponents averaged with a ranking of 6.
2. Winning Percentage (Maximum of 8 points)
The second highest-weighted category that goes into determining your score for your ranking is your win percentage. The count of games you play is not factored into your ranking - only the total percent of games you win. The higher the win percentage, the higher your score is for your winning percentage score. You can score 8 points for winning 100% of your games.
3. Average Points Scored (Maximum of 5 points)
This category takes the average amount of points you score in a game. If you average 21 points a game, you would get 5 points. It is possible to get more than 5 points if you average more than 21 points a game, but that is rare. If you have lost a few games, it will be unlikely your average will be at least 21 points unless you have had some high-scoring wins.
4. Average Points Allowed (Maximum of 5 points)
This category takes the average amount of points your opponents score in a game. If you do not allow any points a game average, you could get the full 5 points. (This is nearly impossible) Likewise, you can actually get negative points (which would be deducted from your total score) if you average more than 21 points allowed a game. This is also unlikely unless you have lost all or nearly all of your games.

About Me
I figured I would put in my first post in my blog that simply tells you a few things about me, so here we go... Don't be worried about the first paragraph just yet...
I have a very unique, dorky, special sense of humor by making weird noises, words that do not likely exist, and sentences that aren't really sentences. I also like to modify real words. Some people get my sense of humor, and others do not. I'm animated at times, but I'm also somewhat quirky, and even I don't know what exactly makes me tick sometimes. I sometimes have doubts on the electrician that wired me, and I'm sure others have their doubts as well.
I am a nerd/geek by heart. Despite this, I do not own a spinner hat. With that being said, I do have an addiction to technology and gadgets. I am a gamer. Oh yes, I also have an addiction to sugar, and I can go nuts after having a candy bar or two. :)
Ironically, despite my addictions to mostly indoor gadgets, I also enjoy the outdoors and the scenery, besides snow and ice. I like going up to "the lake", and I like playing a game called "ladder ball". (Also known as "ladder golf", "hillbilly toss", and a wide assortment of other names.)
Over time, you will see more posts that will begin to give you the story of me, "Nerd_Ngong".
